Nigeria 22 MW Sawtooth Wind Farm

Nigeria 22 MW Sawtooth Wind Farm

The Sawtooth Wind Farm, located in the Rimi area of Katsina State in northwestern Nigeria, has an installed capacity of 22 megawatts (MW)—enough to meet the electricity needs of approximately 6,000 households. The project comprises 14 General Electric (GE) 1.6 MW wind turbines and supplies electricity to the Nigerian power grid under a 20-year power purchase agreement. PowerWorks manages the project's operations and maintenance (O&M) as well as asset management, achieving an average operational availability of over 98%. Over its 20-year operational lifespan, the electricity generated by the project will avoid or displace harmful emissions associated with fossil-fuel-based power generation, specifically preventing an estimated 3.5 tonnes of sulfur dioxide (SO2), 256 tonnes of nitrogen oxides (NOx), 32 tonnes of fine particulate matter (PM2.5), and 900,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2). Reducing these emissions mitigates adverse impacts on humans, wildlife, and ecosystems—for instance, by preventing the deaths of 2,900 birds. Furthermore, the wind farm is projected to generate over $40 million in local economic benefits (including both direct and indirect impacts) over the 20-year period; these benefits encompass property taxes, wages for high-skilled positions, land lease payments to landowners and farmers, sales taxes, and expenditures for services procured from local businesses.

South Africa’s 695 MW “Desert Ridge” Wind-Solar-Storage Project

South Africa’s 695 MW “Desert Ridge” Wind-Solar-Storage Project

The proposed "Desert Ridge" integrated wind, solar, and storage project is located near Bedford/Somerset East in South Africa and is currently in the late stages of development, with power sales efforts underway. Six major transmission lines traverse the project site. During its first 16 years of operation, the electricity generated by the project will avoid or displace harmful emissions associated with fossil-fuel-based power generation—specifically, an estimated 96,000 pounds of sulfur dioxide (SO2), 3.7 million pounds of nitrogen oxides (NOx), 1.3 million pounds of fine particulate matter (PM2.5), and 19 million pounds of carbon dioxide (CO2). Reducing these harmful pollutants lowers adverse impacts on humans, wildlife, and ecosystems; for instance, the project is expected to prevent 13 fatalities and 9 heart attacks, while also avoiding the deaths of 71,000 birds. Furthermore, the project is estimated to generate over $1 billion in local economic benefits over its entire lifecycle. It will be constructed immediately adjacent to our existing 22 MW "Sawtooth" wind project.

95 MW Altamont Wind Farms, California

95 MW Altamont Wind Farms, California

The Altamont wind project, located in the Altamont Pass, near Livermore, California, includes four projects, comprised of 920 wind turbines, totaling 95 MW. This project operates under four power purchase agreements with Pacific Gas & Electric Company. For 20 years, PowerWorks Services operated and maintained this project in its state-of-the-art maintenance facility in the Altamont Pass, requiring 50 employees, with an average operating availability over 98%, with wind turbines upwards of 30 years old. This project was decommissioned in 2018, then redeveloped for repowering, called the Summit wind project.

58 MW Summit Wind Project, California

58 MW Summit Wind Project, California

While decommissioning our Altamont Pass wind projects, we redeveloped the site and completed the permitting in Alameda County, to make way for a new 58 MW wind project, using GE 2.3 MW wind turbines. This project asset was ultimately sold and is currently owned by Greenbacker Capital. The project was completed, with a COD in 2021.

54 MW Panther Creek Wind Project, Illinois

54 MW Panther Creek Wind Project, Illinois

PowerWorks completed the development activities for the 54 MW Panther Creek wind project, located in Pike County (near Pittsfield), Illinois, including obtaining a conditional use permit and signing a 20-year+ power purchase agreement with Prairie Power Inc. The project installed GE 3.4 MW wind turbines and reached its COD in February 2025. This project asset was sold to Greenbacker Capital in 2022.
